The line printer is a form of high speed impact printer in which one line of type is printed at a time. While print quality is relatively poor by todays standards, line printers are ideal for areas where large volumes of text are required to be printed quickly and efficiently.
Line printers are both faster and have lower total cost of ownership, including purchase price, consumables, paper, and maintenance, than laser printers. Line printers are used for printing box labels, medium volume accounting and other large business applications.
All line printers used paper provided in boxes of continuous fan-fold forms rather than cut-sheets. Pre-printed forms are also commonly used (for printing cheques, invoices, etc.).

The 6212, 6215 and 6218 Line matrix printers are ground-breaking solutions for high-volume, mission-critical impact printing. Tally combines cutting-edge innovation with time-tested technology to make the 6212, 6215 and 6218 superior in speed, reliability, and quality. At 1200, 1500 and 1800 lines per minute (LPM) respectively, they actually outperform line printers rated at higher speeds when printing in "real world" applications. Outstanding throughput is made possible by technological advancements to the hammer bank and paper feed system.
